Perched on a bluff and completely hidden from the street below, lies this luxurious and one-of-a-kind, tropical oasis. One of the only compounds in downtown Puerto Vallarta, Villa Ladera and Casitas is perfectly located in Amapas (between the Romantic Zone and Conchas Chinas, across the street from Almar Resort) and is moments from Los Muertos Beach.
The property boasts an impressive 11,000ft² of indoor/outdoor living spaces and cascades over four levels. To this day, it remains true to its authentic Mexican heritage through its design and decor allowingVilla Ladera and Casitas to perfectly embody the open air, laid-back style of living that Puerto Vallarta has become world famous for.
2021 saw the conclusion of a massive 18-month renovation that brought the property back in time to honour its original charm and essence. All the modern finishes, textiles and technologies that one would expect from a luxury vacation rental have been added. Extensive custom work throughout builds upon the rich detail, robust heritage and welcoming spirit of this incredible estate.
Three completely private and fully self-contained properties are woven amongst meandering pathways and lush tropical gardens. THESE PROPERTIES CAN BE RENTED INDIVIDUALLY, AS A DUO, OR A COMBINED TRIO FOR EXCLUSIVE USE OF THE COMPOUND. Villa Ladera and Casitas can accommodate any size rental, large or small, for short getaways or long term rentals.
The top two floors of the compound belong exclusively to Villa Ladera. With five large bedrooms (each with king beds, extensive custom tiled en-suites, AC and fans), an outdoor powder room, a large heated pool (flanked by two palapas, one that shades a double king sun-bed), as well as an outdoor covered dining room, there is no shortage of space. A continuous wrap-around patio flows seamlessly around the villa and connects the living spaces, gardens and stunning outdoor areas. Guests of Villa Ladera are afforded the ultimate in indoor/outdoor lifestyle.
This delightful casita is located within the larger gated walls of Villa Ladera. Its enchanting curved wall entrance features the original wooden front door (refurbished from 1961) and welcomes guests into the first of two private patios. The larger patio features a lovely pool and outdoor shower and is surrounded by a wall of bamboo. The second patio is walled in by tropical plants and flowers and has a hammock. Casita Lozano truly offers the ultimate in indoor/outdoor living. Hidden from the road and the neighbours, this perfectly appointed apartment offers everything you could need for stays, both long and short.
This cozy casita is tucked away in a quiet corner of the compound. It features a lush pathway that leads to two separate patio spaces, one with its own private plunge pool and bbq area. The second patio has an outdoor dining table for four and a romantic chandelier. A large iron and beveled glass accordion door off this patio welcomes you into your apartment. A fully equipped kitchen, complete with island and bar stools, ensures no shortage of space for peaceful morning coffees, evening dinners or simply relaxing in the tropical air. Casita Escondida is perfect for a single person or a couple looking for short or long term accommodation.
The property is located in the Amapas region, perfectly situated between the Romantic Zone and Conchas Chinas. Exit Ladera's semi-circular driveway and turn left to wander up Santa Barbara Street and take in the ocean views, beautiful villas and historical estates. Turn right and meander down the cobblestone lane into old town and enjoy everything it has to offer. Or, simply cross the street and enjoy the bars and beach clubs of Almar Resort. A hidden public staircase next to the resort guides you down to the gorgeous sands of Puerto Vallarta's world famous beach, Los Muertos.
Little information as to the birth of "Casa Ladera" can be found only adding to its allure. Construction began in the late 1950's and the estate was completed in 1961. Villa Ladera was the 99th home to receive electricity in Puerto Vallarta. Our neighbour, actress Connie Stevens, has overlooked Villa Ladera since the 1980s. Billionaire recluse Howard Hughes was known to sequester himself in Villa Ladera and it has been said that in the early 1960s, actor Rock Hudson himself fell in love with the home.
The gardens of Villa Ladera have been maturing for over 60 years. Large palm trees, creeping vines, potted plants, flowers, ferns, bougainvillea, ginger plants, orchids, and many other exotic flowers and greenery intertwine over multiple terraces and walkways throughout the properties. Brick, stone, cement, terra cotta, iron, glass, and custom tiles as well as mesquite and parota woods all add to the charming textures and warm materials used throughout the property. Butterflies, green parakeets, iguanas, dragonflies, hummingbirds and geckos call the gardens of this estate home.
